Incorrect foot biomechanics can cause your knee, hip or entire body to be pulled out of alignment. This can create muscle imbalance, joint strain, and pain further up the "kinetic chain" in your body. After a thorough foot and gait evaluation, we identify your foot type and the amount of support your foot needs. We recommend a footwear solution that will work best to keep your foot and entire lower body in a neutral position.
Deciding what shoe to wear is an important decision and one that we talk about with patients all the time. Your shoes should be flexible enough to allow for normal foot mechanics, but should also provide support for your feet.
If wearing appropriate shoes is not enough to correct your mechanics, we'll recommend an over-the-counter shoe insert, and we'll occasionally recommend and make custom foot orthotics. Together, a stable base, good alignment and stronger muscles allow your joints to absorb shock properly and propel your body forward as you walk.
Andersonville Physical Therapy is here to recommend a footwear solution to improve your lower body mechanics and help you recover from surgery, pain or loss of function. Find out how we can help you by calling our Chicago office at (773) 907-3599 today.
